This page is not an official publication of the Society for Creative Anachronism and does not delineate SCA policies. However, it is created under the auspices of the Warden of the Consortium of the Southern Marches.
Welcome to The Consortium, an unofficial confederation of local branches of the Kingdom of Meridies, which is an official regional division of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). All these are a union of people interested in re-creating the enjoyable aspects and the ideals of the Middle Ages.
The Consortium of the Southern Marches is an unofficial alliance of shires and currently includes six member groups: Camden Tor, Flint Marsh, Marion Glen, Ravenwood, Rivermarch, and Tir Briste. Members gather at events, fighter practices, and occasional challenges for the Chalice, symbolic heart of the bond between shires. Consortium members try to support one another's events and demos and try to field a unified force for Meridies in wars. We like to imagine that we also defend southeastern Meridies against incursions by our Trimarian and Atlantian neighbors.
In past years, the Consortium was bigger and busier, and we hope to be so again. One aspect of that business was the annual Consortium Hidage (taxes), which was collected on a strictly voluntary basis and was utilized as a fundraiser for the Kingdom. Tax amounts were based on the hypothetical estates of the nobility of the Consortium, formulated according to SCA rank and offices, and created in Anglo-Norman land/tax traditions.
